N.D.E. [near-dep-experience]
Following my epic appearance on saxophone at All Souls's Prayer Gathering, I nearly ended up dep-ing for my teacher (Sophie) at the Saturday rehearsal for Prom Praise at the RAH - yes, anonymous blogger-reader - there are tickets left - go along tout suite to the Royal Albert Hall Box Office either here or on the phone ( 020 7589 8212) and snap up one of the remaining sprinkle!.
anyway... back to my near-dep-experience. Noel had ok-ed me filling in for Sophie at the Saturday rehearsal - so I took the pad home (and learned one or two new notes while having a cursory look over it) but I didn't have the energy on Friday evening to give it a SERIOUS workover - after all, I am just a baby sax - so I decided to leave it this time.
It was interesting to see the parts though - gives me something [else] to aim for.
Janet, however, managed her first ever experience of orchestral playing on the cello. She joined in with the section for the last segment of the rehearsal - several people commenting on just how good she looks with a cello. She said it was a definately different experience to her usual view of life from the flute (or more often, piccolo) chair - seeing the conductor from the side and so on.
cool, eh?
there were several littel Grade-1-a-thon related lessons going on that day (I had one with Sophie before the Thursday rehearsal) bit of percussion, double bass, cello - really exciting!
:)
anyway - got to get an early night - not been too great the last 2 days or so.
